visit on June 8, 2006 of the exhibition “Le Corbusier
ou la Synthèse des arts”.
The
5th Harsch cultural appointment took place on June 8, 2006 at
the Musée Rath in Geneva and was followed by a nice and
tasty Cocktail served at the terrace of the Lyrique, two blocks
away from the Museum, place Neuve.
About a hundred people, amongst our customers, colleagues and
friends, were able to know better Charles-Edouard Jeanneret.
Known as Le Corbusier, thanks to the beautiful exhibition “Le
Corbusier ou la Synthèse des arts” organized by
the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire with, for commissioners,
Naïma and Jean-Pierre Jornot.
Le Corbusier puts his mark on the world of architecture and town
planning of the XXth Century. This man, who fought all his life
to impose a new architecture and a new town planning, was, after
all, a painter. Since he was 5 years old, Charles-Edouard has
a passion for drawing. During his all life, systematically, he
took with him some pencils and a booklet to draw sketches.
As architect, he was listing to life and people, made every effort
to give an harmonious shape to his work, keeping in mind that
everything must be correctly organized.
He said : «I have
this capital sin, that’s to be subjugate by visual things.
I have eyes and everything that is visual, that is drawing,
painting, sculpture, architecture, is for me only one single
phenomenon !».
Generally known for his architectural creations, Le Corbusier
equally had talents of painter, sculpture, engineer, writer.
The about 300 items presented (paintings, sculptures, tapestry,
models….) as well as some personnel objects (his glasses,
a few handwritten letters and some miscellaneous objects brought
back from his trips) are part of the testimony.
Our thanks are for the Musée, particularly to Ms Muriel
Pavesi and Ms Ursula Ramseier as well as to Mr. Cäser Menz
and Mr. Roberto Papis; without forgetting the two nice guides
who shared with us their passion for Le Corbusier and their knowledge
on his life and his work.
